Why You Should Live in The Netherlands

This article highlights the benefits of moving to the Netherlands for work, focusing on the 30% tax exemption available to foreign employees. To qualify, candidates must be recruited from abroad for a role requiring scarce expertise, must not have lived within 150km of the Dutch border for 18 of the last 24 months, and must meet specific salary requirements. The cost of living in the Netherlands, particularly in cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam, is also discussed, emphasising its affordability compared to London.

Windmills, bikes, and cheese aside, the Netherlands offers a wide range of benefits to attract foreign talent to move there.

Employees hired from abroad for a position based in the Netherlands can be eligible for a 30% tax deduction on their income tax, a tax break that lasts for five years.

How do I qualify for the tax exemption?

You must be transferred or recruited from abroad for a position based in the Netherlands, with an expertise that is scarcely available in the country. You must also not have resided within 150km from the border for the last 18 out of 24 months at the time of hiring. You must also meet the minimum salary requirements of 38,347 euros, with some exemptions.
