Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate within a team of photonic engineers and product designers to develop our silicon photonics device and product portfolio, shaping the future of information and communication technologies.
• Lead new concept studies and product development projects from the R&D stage to new product introduction (NPI), driving innovation in next-generation communication infrastructure.
• Design and model photonic components and circuits using industry-standard software, pushing the boundaries of optical technology.
• Participate in chip design reviews to ensure designs meet all defined specifications, guaranteeing the reliability and performance of our communication solutions.
• Validate designs through creation of test plans, statistical analysis of measurement data, and identification of any issues during the R&D phase, maintaining the highest quality standards in our products.
• Champion the definition of PIC-based system architectures for groundbreaking applications, including new materials for high-baud-rate transceivers, optical DSP, 6G photonics, RF/mmWave photonics, photonics for AI, 3D/4D image sensing, and photonic neural networks, revolutionizing data transmission and processing capabilities.
• Work closely with both local processing and test teams, as well as global component/module teams, fostering seamless collaboration across our international network.
• Secure funding and resources for new R&D projects by effectively interacting with stakeholders, advocating for advancements in communication technologies.
• Continuously support our R&D activities with new ideas and solutions through literature reviews and conference participation, staying at the forefront of the ever-evolving photonics landscape.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of integrated optics and optoelectronic components and systems.
• Ph.D. in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience in the photonics industry.
• Proven experience in design and test of silicon photonics and III-V components.
• Working knowledge of PIC integration with EICs, RF ICs, and driving circuitry in transceiver modules or similar sub-system applications.
• Demonstrated track record of project/product management skills, bringing new photonic components or systems to high-volume production.
• Experience in product development (spec definition, yield improvement strategies, customer focus, and business acumen for identifying new opportunities) is a plus.
• Proven ability to secure internal funding for new R&D projects through effective communication with stakeholders, along with market/business landscape analysis.
• Hands-on experience with photonics modeling tools (e.g., Photon Design, Lumerical, COMSOL, CST).
• Hands-on experience with layout tools (e.g., Tanner L-Edit, Luceda Ipkiss).
• Experience with Luceda Ipkiss and Python scripting is advantageous.
• Experience with VPI software is a plus.

• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Dutch or Chinese language proficiency is a benefit.
